Melissa Carlson in Sweden

Hej! My name is Melissa Carlson.

I was blessed to be born into a Christian home, and at the age of five, I understood that I was a sinner, that I could never work my way to heaven on my own merits and that Jesus Christ had paid the price for my sin through His shed blood on the cross. By God’s great grace and through His gift of faith, I was saved.

I was baptized a couple of years later, and at the age of thirteen I dedicated my life to the Lord.

God began a work in my heart concerning Sweden when I was just a child. As I grew older, a simple curiosity of my Swedish heritage soon developed into a burden for the people of the country. I began to pray that God would send missionaries to Sweden, and God began to do a work in my heart.

In the fall of 2002, as a sophomore at Maranatha Baptist University, I knew that God was calling me to go to Sweden as a missionary.

In February of 2006, having completed a degree in Biblical Counseling, I was privileged to take a two month mission trip to Sweden and really get a good look at the mission field. During that trip, God only increased my burden for the people of this country.

I moved to Jönköping, Sweden in January of 2011 and have since been able to be involved in a couple of different church/church planting ministries.

I am currently serving with Smålands Baptistförsamling, a small church plant about an hour south of Jönköping. We are just a small group of people at this point, seeking to grow and minister to those in the communities around us.

Kristian Oskarsson is currently leading our services as we seek the Lord’s direction in finding a new pastor.

Kristian, his wife Yuli, and their 3 amazing children have been such a help and blessing to our church!
